1880-1916 German Franz Marc Locations Franz Marc was born in 1880, in the German town of Munich. His father, Wilhelm, was a professional landscape painter, and his mother Sophie was a strict Calvinist. He began study at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich in 1900. In 1903 and 1907 he spent time in Paris and discovered a strong affinity for the work of Vincent van Gogh. Marc developed an important friendship with the artist August Macke in 1910. In 1911 he formed the Der Blaue Reiter artist circle with Macke, Wassily Kandinsky, and other artists who decided to split off from the Neue K??nstlervereinigung movement. He showed several of his works in the first Der Blaue Reiter exhibition at the Thannhauser Galleries in Munich between December 1911 and January 1912. The exhibition was the apex of the German expressionist movement and also showed in Berlin, Köln, Hagen, and Frankfurt. In 1912, Marc also met Robert Delaunay, whose use of color and futurist method was a major influence on Marc's work. Marc became influenced by futurism and cubism, and his art became stark and abstract in nature. His name was on a list of notable artists to be withdrawn from combat in World War I. Walter Gramatte
Walter Gramatte (8 January 1897 in Berlin - 9 February 1929 in Hamburg) was a German expressionist painter who specialized in magic realism. He often painted with a mystical view of nature. Walter Gramatte died on 9 February 1929 of Intestinal Tuberculosis. His second wife Sonia married again, was then named Sophie Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatte and lived in Canada as a renowned musician. To remember her and her former husband Walter Gramatte „The Eckhardt-Gramatte-Foundatione was established in Winnipeg, Canada. Walter Gramatte's written posthumous works are preserved in the German National Museum. A special exhibition of his paintings, titled Rediscovered: Walter Gramatte 1897-1929, took place in Hamburg Ernst Barlach Haus from October 26, 2008 to February 1, 2009. This exhibition was organized by Kirchner Museum in Davos, Switzerland and the Ernst Barlach Haus in Hamburg, Germany.

French Painter, 1763-1843 French painter. He came from a humble background, his father being an employee at the market of Les Halles in Paris. At an early age, a farmer general, M. de Chalue, took an interest in him and found him a place with the curate of Veruts, on the plain of Saint-Denis, north of Paris. It was here that he first developed a love of the countryside. In 1775 he was apprenticed to a mediocre history painter called Leduc, but he preferred to go off and sketch out of doors. In order to assist him, M. de Berchigny, Colonel in the Hussars, engaged him in his regiment garrisoned in Normandy and arranged for him to take lessons in art. He remained there for more than a year and then returned to Paris, where he worked with M. de Grammont-Voulgy, who was Steward to the brother of Louis XVI.
HEMESSEN, Jan Sanders van
Netherlandish Mannerist Painter, ca.1500-1566 was a Flemish Northern Renaissance painter. He was born in Hemiksem, then called Hemessen or Heymissen. Following studies in Italy, in 1524 he settled in Antwerp. A mannerist, his images focused on human failings such as greed and vanity. Like his daughter, Catarina van Hemessen, he also painted portraits. Jan Sanders van Hemessen was a Flemish Northern Renaissance painter. Jan Sanders van Hemessen was from Netherlands. The type of movement he did was mannerism Jan Sanders was born in Hemessen but settled in Antwerp in 1524 after studying in Italy. Hemessen specialized in scenes of human character flaws such as vanity and greed. His pictures are also normally religious and his style helped found the Flemish traditions of genre painting. Hemessen was also a portrait painter, which influenced his daughter to become a Flemish Northern Renaissance painter as well. The Surgeon was painted by Jan Sanders Van Hemessen, in 1555. The oil painting is in a museum called Museo Del Prado, which is in Madrid, Spain. I think the scene painted by Jan Sanders van Hemessen shows a stone cutter at a fair. The surgeon, who is clearly happy that his operations have been successful, painstakingly moves his knife towards the stone, which is already visible. Behind him hang stones which have been successfully cut out of the head of other patients as a sign of his skill.
